IIS and FrontPage

Sean Nijenhuis

Hi all, and thanks.

I've recently installed Windows 2003 Server with IIS running. I add my
website and enable the FP Extensions. When I connect from my client pc using
FP, go to publish and choose to publish using sharepoint, it connects, asks
for username and password and then displays "Opening Web Site...." and just
carrys on displaying that and nothing further happens? Cant publish?

Any ideas?

Thanks
Sean

Howdy Sean, and you're welcome.

Can you open the IIS Web site directly in FrontPage? If
not, how does it fail?

If you *can* open the IIS Web site directly in FrontPage,
try:

FrontPage Publish Command Fails

Hi, thanks for the reply,>

I assume that when you mean the IIS Web site you mean

http://myserver:iisport ? Which is either port 8099 or 8098?

Actually I don't know. Cuase if I try the above I get "The folder isnt
accessible or has a password or has a / \ in the filename " story.

So ?

Thanks

Sean

I followed the article, no luck.

However, in the meantime I tried to publish to another FrontPage Server at
another host, with success.

So it would appear that it is definately a server side problem.

I'm going to attempt the microsoft artical listed at the bottom of the
article and see!

On the server can you open the site in IE?
- or in Admin Tools IIS - FP SE

Following that microsoft article:

In the browser address bar, type http://Host_Name/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/Page_Name, and then press ENTER.

I get: Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions on this page

http://Server_Name/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.dll

I get:
method=

status=

a.. status=262148
b.. osstatus=0
c.. msg=Unknown CONTENT_TYPE: "".
d.. osmsg=
Grrrr. I dont know where to begin now?

Help!

Thanks
Sean

TBMK
- you can't open localhost on a remote PC w/ FP (only on the local PC running FP)
- you may need a static IP address for your W2K3 server based web for other networked PCs to access it in FP

In that case, first try:

1. In Windows Explorer, find and delete all FP Temp Files. By default,
these reside in C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local
Settings\Temp\FrontPageTempDir.
2. In Windows Explorer, find and delete all hidden *.web files
3. In Windows Explorer, find and delete the cmdui.prf file.
