IIS issue with Project server

S

Suz

I've installed Project server - and everything is on one server (SQL, IIS,
sharepoint...). When on internet explorer, I can use http://localhost but
when trying to use the server name, I get "under construction" and if I use
http://servername/projectserver, I get "HTTP Error 404 - File or directory
not found.
Internet Information Services (IIS)".

Any ideas???

Suz:

Using localhost is no good. Provided that you haven't used a
non-alphanumeric character in naming your server, this is essentially a DNS
issue. Make sure that your server has a DNS entry or to work around it, you
could add an entry to your hosts file. I've seen this behavior many times
when calling the application from the server itself. Test access from
another machine to verify that it can access the server before assuming this
cause.

This could be a change as simple as reassigning the port number on the
virtual directory (what's now 90) but this depends on what is running on 80
and if this is simply reassignable.

I would like to change to port 80 but now not sure how. I know I have to do
this manually but not to sure on the steps. If this is simple, could you let
me know how to go about this?

Much appreciated.

Doing this indiscriminately could cause problems on your system.

Open Internet Information Services
Expand your websites
Locate the website in question and right click and select properties
The TCP port assignment is on the website tab

Like I said, something else is running on port 80, so you'll need to
reassign it before you change the site that Project Server is running on.
