IIS Nightmare XP PRO Front Page 2003

deacon

A couple more questions before I delete everything.
Question One
1. Ok, I have IIS installed, the 2002 extensions installed, and the two
security patches installed and I can open IIS by going to the control
panel>administrative tools>IIS.
2. Once in IIS, I can click on All Tasks>Check Server Extensions and it
brings up a window that says No Problems Found
3. I can click on All Tasks>Check Server Extensions 2002 and it brings up a
browser window with an address of:
http://deacon1/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=health.htm
and down below it says it can't find the page (HTTP 500 - Internal server
error
Internet Explorer )
Does this mean that the 2002 extensions are not installed? or just what does
it mean ??

Question Two
1. I open a new web in Front Page 2003 with the name C:\My Webs\web4. This
web has an index.htm and some text on the index.htm page and would like to
somehow get it onto the IIS Server. What is the correct method of doing this?

Question Three
1. The only way I have been able to get anything onto the IIS server so far
is to open IIS, click on New>Virtual Directory then give it an alias name and
point it to C:\MyWebs\web4. Once I do that, I can enter
http://localhost/web4 in the URL Address and it opens the page. I can't make
any changes when it opens in the browser as http://localhost/web4 so if I
wanted to make some changes to this page, how would I go about it. I can
open it as http://localhost/web4 in Front Page now and it gives it a name of
[Default] but it wont let me publish.........it prompts me to save the page
and it now wants to do so as C:\My Webs\Web5. I guess this is the same
question. How do I get it from Front Page to the IIS server?

You apparently have the FP 2000 SE (from your 2) and not the FP 2002 SE (from your 3) installed

What do you see in right clicking the root web in IIS and selecting Properties
(a tab for the FP 2002 SE?)
If not
In Add Remove Components (Windows Components - IIS - Details remove the FP 2000 SE
Then reinstall the FP 2002 SE (from downloads) , Stop/Restart IIS and check root web properties

When I right click the root web in IIS and select properties, it brings up a
window with quite a few tab options, one of which is FPSE 2002. When I click
on FPSE2002, it opens a window that says the following: Microsoft SharePoint
is installed on this web site. Version 5.0.2.4330. Click settings to view
and set Share Point and FPSE properties and to choose administration
commands. When I click on settings as it says, It opens the web browser to
http://deacon/_sharepoint/fpadmdll.dll?page=genset.htm&port=/LM/W3SVC/1 and
down below in the page is an error message: HTTP 500 - Internal server error.

On my computer, there is no utility within the add/remove Windows Components
for removing Server Extensions whether they be 2000 or 2002. The only thing
in there relating to this subject is IIS. I have removed and replaced IIS
several times as well as adding the FP2002 SE several times, all to no avail.

I need to add another comment to my previous post. When I installed IIS, I
clicked on details prior to the install and unchecked the FP2000 extensions
so I am farily certain that they are not installed. Also when I enter the
control panel and go to add remove programs and open windows components and
uncheck IIS and then look at details, it shows the 2000 check box empty.

I would suggest install IIS with FP2000 extensions first to make sure you can access IIS from FP,
then and only then upgrade to the FP2002 extensions.

Ok, I have uninstalled FP2002 Extensions and IIS. Then I Re-installed IIS
with the FP2000 box selected under details. So the FP2002 extensions no
longer exist. I am still unable to access ISS using Front Page so perhaps I
am doing that step incorrectly. Can you tell me the proper procedure to do
this?

I am not sure what your problem and Susan's is. I have always done a clean install of Windows XP Pro
and then immediately installed IIS with the FP2000 extensions, and each time I was immediately able
to open http://localhost from FP2002 and FP2003.

Hi Thomas.....I have narrowed this down considerably in the last hour. We
have another computer in the house and I formatted the hard drive, Did a
clean install of XP and then installed IIS with the FP2000 extensions and
everything worked perfectly so all I can assume is that something is wrong
with this computer. I don't have a clue as to what it is though.

I am not sure what your problem and Susan's is. I have always done a clean install of Windows XP Pro
and then immediately installed IIS with the FP2000 extensions, and each time I was immediately able
to open http://localhost from FP2002 and FP2003.

Can you tell me the proper procedure to do
this?

I would suggest install IIS with FP2000 extensions first to make sure you can access IIS from FP,
then and only then upgrade to the FP2002 extensions.

:

You apparently have the FP 2000 SE (from your 2) and not the FP 2002 SE (from your 3)
installed

What do you see in right clicking the root web in IIS and selecting Properties
(a tab for the FP 2002 SE?)
If not
In Add Remove Components (Windows Components - IIS - Details remove the FP 2000 SE
Then reinstall the FP 2002 SE (from downloads) , Stop/Restart IIS and check root web
properties
