Illegal instruction

All of a sudden yesterday, after detaching an e-mail, we cannot open excel. We get an error message saying: The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.

We cannot use excel at all. Is there any fix, or do I have to reinstall the excel portion of Office?
