Illegal Operation when inserting bullets and program closes

P

Paul Howes

Just recently, whenever I try to insert bullets or numbers onto a document,
I get a 'This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut
down' message.
This is happening on about 8 PCs using Office97. Could anyone tell me why
this has only just stated happening??

Thanks

Hi Paul,

Does this happen on all documents or a single document? If the error
occurs on all documents then this could be due to a little corruption
in the Registry. In the
Registry drill down to:

HKEY CURRENT USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Word\List Gallery
Presets

And delete the List Gallery Presets key. Word will build a new one
based
on the defaults upon starting.

As always, prior to making any changes to the Registry you should
review
"Backing up the Registry" and "Restoring the Registry" in the Registry
Help.

In this situation you may also want to use the Registry/Export
Registry
file command and export your selected branch. That way if you find the
change wasn't necessary or incorrect, you can merge the deleted branch
back to the Registry by double-clicking the resulting file.

Hi Beth
I think it occurs on all docs. I'm back at the school where the error is on
Wednesday, so ill try the reg fix you have suggested.

Thanks
Paul
