illegal operation

Please help. I am trying to download a MIcrosoft Word document (34kb) and get a box stating I have performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. When I click on details the following message appears: MOD MSWRd 832.cnv @ 0177:0140f6d5. I believe I have windows 98. AT the bottom of the screen it states word is converting "certain document" but it never appears after it converted it. Please help. Thank you so very much

What version of Word are you running? Have you applied the latest patches
and Service Packs?
Its possible that the it might be a WordPerfect file. Have you tried opening
the file from its present location instead of downloading and opening
directly into Word?
