Illegal operations shut down lost document

While I was typing a report the illegal operations pop up
appeared and booted me off an I lost my report (it was not
saved). Is there any way to find it again?

Not unless there was an AutoRecovery save and if it was present you
would have been notified of it upon restarting Word.

Unfortunately you have learned why you should always save your files
at frequent intervals. If it's a matter of not wanting to pick up the
mouse to click the Save command then you can use Ctrl + S on the
keyboard to save.
