I'm confused, are you? You think it's a virus?!

hello people,
I've opened a document which was supposed to be opened by the Internet
Explorer program but that program couldn't open it, so i tried to open it
with the Word program but guess what?
The whole document went crazy and started to add pages i don't really know
where did it get it from? All i could do is watching these pages increasing
strangely. as i remember the number of pages, before i closed it and stopped
this madness, was about 1700 pages!
Yeah that's right, seventeen hundred pages!
Could any one help me?
the link for that thing i downloaded is:
http://www.geocities.com/yahya_elhadj/CPI/Cpp_Slides/Chap_01.pdf
you can open it safely and don't worry, there is no any kind of danger may
caused. Believe me. It was a handout for a lesson we were suppose to get it
tomorrow, but i don't think anyone would be able to read not to mention
printing that enormous number of pages.
Thanks!

It is perfectly OK. I suggest that you download (if it isn't on your HDD)
Adobe Acrobat Reader and reinstall it. The Acrobat File will not open in
Word: you must have used the Recover Text from Any File option to manage to
open it: I'm not surprised it was paginating a huge number of pages but I am
surprised it opened at all!

Once you have Acrobat installed, go back to the link you posted and the file
will open in the Acrobat plug-in in Internet Explorer. You can then save it
to your local hard disk by pressing the Save a Copy button.

Infinite pagination is typically caused by graphics or embedded
objects in the document.

Graphics/embedded objects are anchored to a paragraph. If for some
reason, perhaps one paragraph is spanning multiple pages, Word beings
'looking' for a paragraph mark to anchor the object and it cannot find
one because no paragraph either begins or ends on that page. Then it
tries the next page, then the next and goes into a continuous
repagination loop.

Sometimes changing to a different printer, such as an ink jet if using
a laser or vice-versa, is enough to get the document open and correct
the issue.

The user is linking to a PDF file: Word should not be opening at all. Either
Acrobat needs registering or reinstalling.
