The office install does not recognize the works version on

Well of course it doesn't! You think MS has a time machine?! That they fast
forwarded 2 years when they released 2000 so that they could go forward in
time and see what products would be around two years hence?!
Incidentally, your upgrade licence is null and void anyway. You see, an
upgrade licence is only considered to be *HALF* a licence and it only
becomes 'whole' when you use a product to qualify. The qualifying product
licence then becomes 'assimilated' into the upgrade, thus making it whole.
The two are now considered one product and may not be separated. Therefore,
if you no longer have the product you used to qualify for the upgrade, you
no longer have a valid licence and must purchase Office again. You may use
your Office 2000 as a qualifying product for Office 2003, just bear in mind
the above.
The above also applies when you *SELL* an upgrade - you must also sell the
product you used to qualify for the upgrade with it.
