I'm Trying to Learn Word 2007 and it Aint Going Good

I've had Word 2007, or whatever Word came with Office 2007, for about a year
now. It sure is different then the Word 2003 Im used to. After trying it when
I first got this new system I gave up and decided to do all my word
processing at work on W2003. All was OK until a couple days ago. I finally
created a docu in W2007 and saved it to a flash drive. When I tried to open
it at work, it wouldnt open. The icon had a red bar on it and it said it was
encrypted. That evening I recreated the docu in W2007 again, but before
saving it I copied and pasted it into Notepad and saved both. Now I get to
work and the W2007 docu opens. I edit it and try to save it in W2003 and
"Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error.
(filepath.doc.docx)" comes up, and this is on W2003! Is W2003 and W2007 not
compatible? How did I encrypt the file? How do I keep from encrypting files?
How did I create a permission error? How do I keep from creating permission
errors? Any ideas anyone would care to offer of what I am doing wrong will be
greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

You shouldn't save directly (from any version of Word) to a flash
drive. You should save to your hard drive and then copy it to your
flash drive.

Word2003 can't read Word2007 (.docx) files, unless you have downloaded
the Compatibility Pack from Microsoft. To be able to open a Word2007
file in an earlier version, go to Office Button > Save As > Word
97-2003 file, and you'll get a .doc alongside your .docx. You can then
copy the .doc to your flash drive, copy it to your work computer's
hard drive, and open it from there.
