I'm trying to save an excel (Office 2007) file to a CD

I have a new computer with Windows XP and this is the first time I've tried
to save to a CD. It works fine when I save to the floppy drive. But when I
do Save As and choose the CD drive, it says:
The folder 'D:\*.*' isn't accessible. The folder may be located in an
unavailable
location, protected with a password, or the file name contains a \ or /.
I don't know what this means so I'm stuck.

First to explain the / or \. This simply means you can't save a file that
has these characters, there are several more as well. An example would be if
you had a file named "lauren's 4/21/06". It won't allow the ' or the / when
saving to CD, even though you can save it that way in Windows typically.

The message: The folder 'D:\*.*' isn't accessible. The folder may be
located in an unavailable location, protected with a password, or the file
name contains a \ or / could be displayed simply because you don't have a
disc in the CD drive. I have had these issues in the past.

I would assume that you have some sort of CD software program (most
computers come loaded with something). Typically it would be a Roxio or
Sonic program. If you have either of these, try opening the program and
loading the files that way and see if the problem is resolved.

Have you tried Right Click> Send to after as Lauren says, being
sure that you have a CD or DVD in the drive? As far as staying
away from unallowed characters, I find, say 4-21-07, is a
reasonable and allowed way to show a date.

Never save directly to removable media - floppy, flash drive, CD, whatever.
Always copy to/from Windows Explorer or, if dealing with writable disks, you
could use your favorite burning software.
