I'm using Excel in Office for Mac 2004. How do I get a lighter shadeof gray in my cells?

Right now, when I change the fill, it only goes down to 25% gray,
which is still pretty dark and too much contrast for my taste. How do
I get down to 10% gray.

A whiter shade of pale? I agree with your preference!
You have to redefine an existing color because Excel can keep track of
just a 56 colors at a time!

Excel > Preferences > Color
pick one of the existing colors
Click Modify...
find your favorite color!

This will apply to the existing worksheet only. Maybe if you save a
modified worksheet and define it as your default template, the color
won't darken the next time you make a new worksheet. Sort of like pre-
fading jeans.
