Images and attachments cause lockup

I'm having trouble both viewing and attaching images with Outlook Express.
Sometimes it just locks up my computer at the screen where it asks you to
save or open an attachment when the it freezes before the save question
shows in the window the circle you check is blurred. I repaired IE6,
defragged etc. but no luck. It doesn't do it everytime but sure is a pain. I
have to cold boot. Anyone have any ideas?
