Images and graphics show as a red X

Hi all,

I am updating an old site and having difficulties with images and graphics.
They all show as a box with red x in the corner. I have heard that I need to
put the images in a folder named images, and I have done so but nothing. I
have also heard I need to lower the resolution or quality of the images, but
when I do that they look awful. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here

They are still not all loaded. Have you proprely optimized them. Which image
editing software are you using so I can give you direction???

Glad to help I have done the same.
To answer some of your other questions you can put images anywhere you want
in the root it just makes it easy to organize things if they are in a
folder. Rule of thumb for images, if it is a photo save as a jpg and if it
is a logo with flat colour areas then save as a gif. always resize your
images in an image editor not in frontpage,front page only tels the browser
to display the image at a certain size the original size is still the same

Is there a standard as to what size the images should be? Or at least a
formula for figuring out the size?

Hmm,

I think there is a recommended size for images, but I find that if I use
IrfanView, www.irfanview.com and set the size to 600*400 and save as 75%
jpeg (this option is in the save window) I get reasonably sized images. Some
of mine are 200KB but most are 40-60 KB

Of course, for a bigger browser window, you can use bigger than 600*400
