images disappear when switching views?

Why do images that are set as a watermark and images drawn on the page
disappear when switching views? When I go from Print Layout View to Normal
View, boxes that I created and the watermark are gone.

Objects in the drawing layer are not displayed in Normal view. Any object
with a text wrapping style other than In Line With Text is in the drawing
layer (this includes watermarks, which are formatted as Behind Text), and
all drawing objects are in the drawing layer.
