Images embedded in footer appear is square with red cross in it

I have a word document ( i'm using Word 2003 + Office SP 2 + Windows SP2 +
XML Toolbox plugin ) were a image has been placed in the footer ( barcode
).But when i view this document , the image does not appear.Word displays it
as a small white square with a red cross in it.

Some help would be nice
