Images from Frontpage won't transfer to Outlook

D

Doc

I am using Frontpage 2003 (11.6552.8036) SP2 to compose an HTML message.
When I click on File --> Send, an Outlook 2003 (same build) message box
appears with the HTML message, but with no images. This is a new problem
that has occurred since I retired my old lap top and reinstalled Office 2003
on a new one.

In examining the source of the Outlook message, the following path is
displayed for the images: outbind://20/images/<image name> As a work around
I can manually modify this for each of the images to pick up the correct
image, but this is a bit of a pain.

Can someone explain to me what is broke and how I can fix it?

Thanks

Any image links in any Emails must be absolute URLs pointing to a file location in your online web
- or they will not be seen by any recipients

PS
Not that most people will see any image since most Email clients now block all images

Yes, that is one way of doing it. However, I have been able to embed the
pictures in the past. In fact, if I sort out the path to the image, I can
go ahead and email it with embedded images, its just that FrontPage used to
do it all automatically.

Have you tried the Outlook news group? This may have been a result of a
service pack update

Yes, I have cross posted to microsoft.public.outlook as it could be a
problem with either application.

That was probably in Outlook *Express* - not Outlook. Outlook doesn't
support embedding of images, so you must host them on a web server and point
to them with absolute URLs.

Every version of Outlook since Outlook 98 has supported embedded images in HTML messages. And as Stefan pointed out, an embedded image is the only way to make sure it gets seen, given that Outlook (and other programs) now block external content.

The key setting is Tools | Options | Mail Format | Internet Format | HTML Options.

It might be worth trying just a simple copy and paste from the FP design window into the message. Also see http://www.slipstick.com/mail1/html.htm

Agreed. This is why I always embed the pictures, as it guarantees the
message will be seen in its complete entirety.

Checked that. Embedded is set.

This works fine, although my background color didn't come across. A minor
problem.

My problem is with "Method 5", compose a message in FrontPage and then use
"File-->Send". This was really slick in that I could compose a fairly
complex page and then just email it with Outlook. It still works, but all
the images are lost in the transfer to Outlook. This used to work, but when
I moved to this new computer and reinstalled Office 2003, it broke!

Thanks for the help everyone!

I would skip the FrontPage File | Send method and try one of the others. Or, open the .htm file in Word and use its File | Send command.

Ah, that did it. Thanks. Still curious to know why the link from FrontPage
broke, but that's the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Funny thing is that
at some point in the future it will start working on this or another machine
and I still won't know why! LOL
