Images gone/ folder rericted

My site was built with FP2000 and I have not maintained it in quite some
time. Recently I made a folder to store some images in, when I tried linking
to those images in Ebay I was told they could not find the images. Later I
found that the error returned when trying to view the images is 404 yet when
looking at the folder on the site - the photo is there. Later I looked at
some web pages created in "SOME" not all directories and the links to photos
that used to work no longer work. SOme of the error pages suggested a folder
that the user did not have "permission" to see, but I checked the folder
permissions and they should be OK. Could this be due to FP 2003 extentions
on my Host site? or whatelse I do not know, any help will be appreciated.
