Images inserted into Word 2000 disappear from saved file

Norm

After inserting an image into a word document, saving the file and
subsequently opening it the image has disappeared. I have done a Goggle
search for this problem but have found nothing - perhaps because of wording.
Any ideas???
WIN XP SP2, all updates current.

Maybe you're not correctly inserting the image? A few things to try:
1. In Word, if you're working in Normal view, then switch to
Print Layout view (View | Print Layout), because objects that are
formatted as "float over text" (Word 97) or as something other
than "inline with text" (Word 2000, 2002, and 2003) are not
visible in Normal view.
2. In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | check the
"Drawings" box and uncheck the "Picture placeholders" box | Print
tab | check the "Drawing objects" box | OK.
3. If neither of the previous suggestions fixes the problem,
then try reducing the hardware acceleration setting in Start |
Control Panel | Display | Settings | Advanced | Troubleshooting.
If this fixes the problem, then you might want to check the
website of the manufacturer of your video card/graphics adapter
to see if there is an updated driver available.

You might also check to confirm that you *are* saving as Word Document
(.doc) - if you have the Save As Type: set to something else it may not
support graphics.

Thanks for the suggestions Cyber and Garfield. I checked and tried them all
with no luck. My settings were consistent with those suggested and I am
saving as Word6.0/95(*.doc). Any other ideas?

Have you tried saving in Word 2000 current format rather than 6.0/95? I'm
not sure that should make a difference, but if the copy does retain the
image it could be helpful in troubleshooting further.

Also, what type of image files are you using... TIFF, JPEG, PNG, other?

When saving to Word 6.0/95, it's helpful to specify "Disable features
introduced after...." If you did this, Word would warn you that Word 6.0 at
least does not support graphics (except drawing objects) in the drawing
layer. You must insert the picture in a text box, which is already in the
drawing layer.

Thank you CyberTaz and Suzanne S. Barnhill. I was saving in an old format
6.0/95
for some inexplicable reason. As soon as I reverted to the .doc the problem
was solved.
