What version of Word? If 2007, check the following options:
Word should be in Print Layout view.
Office - Word Options - Advanced - Show drawings and text boxes on screen
should be checked (Show picture placeholders should not be checked)
Office - Word Options - Advanced - Show background colors and images should
be checked
Office - Word Options - Display - Print drawings created in Word should be
checked
