Images - thumbnails and big pictures

Skc

I have been using FrontPage for a number of years now, but I have come
accross a situation which I need advice on.

I have a client with around 200 images on CD. These images are named
according to the product he wants to sell, so a pin may have an image name of
44.jpg, as the pin model number is 44. The images have been taken on a
digital camera, so the file is big (around 2MB - or something similar) and as
a result I have a few hundred - if not GB of images.

What he wants is not an e-commerce site, but a catalogue site so that I can
just dump the images onto a page with thumbnails to blow the image up in a
new window if someone wants to see a "larger image". Trouble is, how can I
do this in either FP2000 or FP03?

Advice would be excellent.

Thanks.

First, download a copy of IrFanview (a freebie) so you can batch optimize,
resize, and possibly rename all those images in about 10 seconds. Then copy
them off the CD and to your harddrive. Optimize, resize, rename...whatever.
When you're happy with the results Import them into a folder within FP.
Check the Properties of the images after you copy them to your hd, make sure
they are not set to Read Only.

Yes, FP has an auto-thumbnail feature built in, however it creates a link to
the bigger image on a "page" you have no control over (it's not really a
page) - so the bigger images will just appear in a browser window justified
top left and blank white bg. If this works for you then you can do it that
way. If not, use IrFanview to create the thumbnails and make your own actual
pages which will hold the bigger image, this way you can make the big image
page match the style of the rest of the web.

hth..
