Images will not show in regular page layout

When I insert an image from either the clip-gallery or another source,
only the four little black boxes in the corners will appear, and when
i try and click on the "image" the computer beeps at me. However,
when I click on Print Preview, the image appears. How do i fix this
problem? Thank you for your time.

Preferences ->View->Show->Image Placeholders - Unchecked?

Although I can't make it beep with it checked and there are 8 little
black boxes. Maybe you have a different Word to me. I'm on 10.1.4

It is a good idea to say which Word and which OS you area using,
because each have their own idiosyncrasies.

I am using Mac OSX version 10.2.6
and Microsoft Office for OSX version - service release 1
- I tried the Image Place holders solution, still not working
any help would be appreciated.

Is this problem consistent across documents? I find Word's whole
handling of pictures ridiculously flaky. I was just having problems
with one document that was refusing to show the pictures (in any view
-- although it did considerately leave space for them!) and was
generally acting funny. I did the good old
copy-everything-except-the-last-paragraph-mark-into-a-new-document and
now they're back and it's working fine. Might be worth a go. I also
find copy and pasting pictures rather than using the insert menu much
more reliable. Oh, and I think I remember hearing that the top-level
colour formats don't work in Word. You have to make do with thousands
not millions of colours. Or something...

It is consistant across documents; however when I select to insert a
photo from my iphoto library it shows up fine, but when I try and
insert something from the clip gallery or copy-paste from the
internet, only the four boxed appear.
