When I view a powerpoint file in slide show mode, any
images placed in the powerpoint file will appear. However,
when I am normal view, the pictures do not appear at all.
What do I do?

Kevin,

First is to make sure you have the latest video drivers for your machine.
Then, maybe try adjusting hardware acceleration. Please get back if that
doesn't help.

I am having the same problem, and it now takes 10 times as
long to create a presentation. How do I know if I have
the "latest video drivers" and what is "hardware
acceleration"?
