IMAP Folders Offline

I am using Outlook 2007 to connect via IMAP to GMAIL. When I go
offline- Outlook wont let me organize mail (transfer from Inbox to a
folder) b/c I am "not online".

Shouldn't I be able to manage mail while in "work offline" mode?

Pls help! Thanks

Not if its an imap account, as imap is synced with the server, its not
exactly a local file

This seems odd-- it IS a local file I think-- I mean I can read any
message I choose- the entire contents.... when offline- I just cant
move them around... and file them etc....

You'd think so, since Exchange accounts allow it, but it's not true. IMAP
must be on line to manipulate.

Thanks Mr Tillman for the input. How about with Outlook Express though? OE
seems to allow it.... can you believe that? I can move items around while
offline and then when I go online... it says "synchronizing" and boom-
everything, everywhere, is as it should be. I really am wondering what the
"straight dope" is here :)

I've always felt that Outlook Express was a much better IMAP client that
Outlook. Outlook 2007 is a better IMAP client than prior Outlook versions,
but not ideal.

What do you think about Outlook 2010? Do you think that will have this issue
fixed? I am trying to decide how best to proceed. It is hard to believe
more people aren't using IMAP and have a need to process mail while offline.
I would have thought that there would have been quite an uproar about this
one.

Thanks!!

Wow- I am just amazed. I cant believe there are not more IMAP users with
Smartphones and Laptops that are not upset about this? I really dont know
what to say? How in the world can people cope without being able to process
email with their laptop offline (on a plane etc) ??

Maybe most of those people have Exchange or something. I don't know.
Tonight I'll probably see how Mac's mail program handles this... maybe it'll
be the straw that causes me to finally switch.

I don't know.

ANyone here have any experience with Outlook 2010 and its IMAP connection
features? I need to be able to go offline and manipulate my mail , folders
etc.

Outlook 2007 can't do it
Outlook Express CAN do it
Windows Live Mail Desktop CAN do it ( I am **not** talking about hotmail
here...)

Can Outlook 2010 do it?

This week I decide to either jump ship to Mac (which CAN do it) or hang out
for Outlook 2010 and Windows 7.

Any thoughts from anyone? Thanks!!!

If I get a chance I'll check my copy of Outlook 2010.

It would be GREAT if you could check. In 3 days- the Apple sale event
occurs and I plunk down an undesireable 2k for a new machine. I'd like to
avoid that!!
