IMAP Folders

Using Outlook 2007 and running Vista (if it matters) WHY must I click to work Offline and then UNCLICK working Offline to purge my inbox. My POP folders do not have an issue. Only my IMAP (AOL) folders :?

What's wrong with Edit-> Purge Deleted Items?
You can even set this to do automatically when switching folders.
