I have read in various places that Outlook 2003 only supports IDLE for the
IMAP default Inbox folder, but not for other folders. Here is a response
that I received from my IMAP server host that confirms that the problem is on
the client side:
"The server suuports IDLE on any folder but the email client has to issue
the IDLE command on the folder it wants new mail notifications for . Outlook
is a poor IMAP client. Outlook Express is better but I don't think it will
idle on more than one folder either but I could be wrong. You will have to
ask Microsoft support."
Is there a workaround for this? I have an Exchange mailbox and I have
recently my POP accounts to IMAP. I am too dependent on Outlook and add-ins
for work to contemplate switching to another client, although Mulberry and
Thunderbird both seem to get high marks for IMAP support. Any thoughts would
be welcome.
