IMAP inbox refresh new email

Hi folks,

I have come across an interesting problem with Entourage 2004 (11.3.7)
running on Tiger (PPC) using IMAP. The problem has affected 2 machines
out of 10 in the office. Entourage will not show new emails in the
inbox or any other folder when either the user checks email manually
of the send/receive scheduler runs. If you quit the application and
launch it again, new mail shows up. The issue has shown up after
updating from V.x to 2004.

We have an in-house mail server that also supports webmail and that is
not effected. I have tried to rebuild the database, recreate the
account, create a new mail account on the server and completely
reinstall 2004 after scrubbing out all preferences, etc but still
cannot resolve the issue. Has anyone run across this?

Thanks in advance,

Ken

I'm very interested in this because I have the exact same problem. I
actually asked this question about 40 mins ago in a neighbouring post.

I just got an IMAP account for the first time and it is behaving as yours
is with Entourage 2004.

Me too just this morning

I would also add that clicking on other folders in your IMAP list and
then clicking back to the inbox will properly refresh the new mail.

I also adjusted the send/receive schedule with no results. A very odd
problem because i would have thought it resolved after completey
removing everything, restaring and installing a fresh copy. I used the
office removal tool and deleted all preferences and user folders.

Try using command-l to refresh the IMAP Inbox.

If you select the Inbox on an IMAP account and hold down the Control key you
get several options. One is to refresh and another is to repair the message
list.

Let me know if this helps.

Hello Diane

Thank you for your help. I'm not the OP but rather someone who chipped in
with a "me too" type of posting to the OP's problem. My situation is not as
bad as the OP, the best way I can describe Entourage 2004's behaviour with
my IMAP account is simply sluggish. Sometimes it will see new emails in the
IMAP folders, sometimes it won't.

I've found that if I select the "Inbox" for the account and then use the
down arrow going through the entire list of about ten folders in the
account with the down arrow then this seems to prompt Entourage to have a
look in each folder for new mail. That seems to be the most efficient way
of doing it at present unfortunately.

I have tried Refresh Message List and Repair Message List as you describe
but it doesn't make any difference.

I don't know if the fact that I have and Intel Mac and so Office 2004 is
running in Rosetta makes any difference.

I do have Outlook Express 6 on the same computer running in Windows XP in
VMWare Fusion virtualiser and this works with the same IMAP account
flawlessly.

Also I notice that Outlook Express 6 seems to be better "set up" for IMAP
than Entourage (for Mac) 2004 with command to "Synchronise Account" and
ability to have individual settings for each IMAP folder.

I suspect I will have to put up with the sluggishness of Entourage 2004,
but being an optimist I guess that in Entourage 2008 then it might be more
like Outlook Express 6 and work much better :)

Unfortunately is a good word to describe it.

I'm sure that is part of the problem.

This indicates it's not the IMAP account that is the problem. I would
definitely send feedback to Microsoft. This will help get attention to the
problem and hopefully we'll see improvements in 2008.

Under Help in the Entourage menu bar select "Send Feedback on Entourage" to
request this feature, or click on this direct link to enter Mac Product

I was having the same problem, and had called MS Support. After un-
installing and reinstalling the suite - the problem was still there. I
was able to resolve the problem by deleting the schedule, and readding
it. I noted that if I popped open the progress window, that I was not
seeing activity that I expected. After replacing the schedule, that
resolved my problem.

Hope that helps some of you,

Phillip
