IMAP only client

I need to use Outlook as an IMAP only client connected to an IMAP server
(not Exchange).
Is there any way to remove the local .pst file and the associated folders
and to use ans see only the mailbox hosted by the IMAP server?

All POP and Exchange accounts are aggregated under one message store.
Each IMAP account gets its own message store.
Each HTTP account gets its own message store.
Each message store is saved in a .pst file.

Outlook is an e-mail client, not a web browser. If you want to "see
only the mailbox hosted by the IMAP [mail] server" then use the webmail
interface provided by your e-mail provider. Using Outlook with POP or
IMAP has Outlook retrieving a copy of your e-mails from your mail server
and saving those copies locally (in its own message store).

No. You need the local PST because IMAP does not support calendar and
contact folders . FWIW, if you are only using outlook for IMAP email, you'll
have a much better experience using almost any other imap client.
