IMAP Problems

My boss's computer was configured with IMAP for his email and now he has a
duplication poblem. Duplicates of folders and e-mails alike. How can I remove
these duplicate folders. Also , he wants for outlook to display the small
window that says he got an email from So and so. How can I configure that?
Please let me know ASAP. Thanks
