imbedded excel table in word changes formatting

I have an word document with an imbedded excel table. When
the table is edited in excel it looks as it should. when
I go to word, the table is converted to a different font
and all the degree symbols are converted to question
marks. Terribly frustrated with these things.
Autocorrect is doing somthing I think but it doesn't cover
this junk.
