Imbedded movie is jerky

I have had a WMV file imbedded in a Powerpoint 2003 presentation for over a
year and it played just fine.

Now it has suddenly become jerky - the audio is fine but the movie stops for
a fraction of a second then 'catche up' - it does this every few seconds,
seemingly at random, during the 4-minute clip.

It is the same wmv file I've been using all along.

In the hopes that the older movie file is sitting on a bad sector(s), I made
a copy of the file and renamed them both so that the older file is still
there and the newer file has the original name. This way, if the file was
corrupted I would have a fresh file.

It didn't help.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for this - I already have hardware graphics acceleration set to
maximum. What puzzles me is that it has worked just fine for so long.

If I play the video directly in Media Player, I get the same thing, but if I
repeat the video the 2nd playing is just fine. It must be some sort of
read-ahead buffering problem; either an automatic update from Windows or
Norton changed something or I accidentally changed something while doing
something else.

I get same problem when I use some slow systems or when lot of other programs
are running. So i guess it might be some problem with the system performance
