IME and Office 2000

I want to get the Japanese Input Method Editor [IME] up and running so I can
type Kanji characters in WORD.

All the documentation I find refers to loading the IME software from a CD
associated with a resource kit, which I do not have, and do not see for
sale.

Microsoft also talks about downloading it, but the only IME downloads are
for Office XP.

So what's the answer?
