img tag won't publish

OK, I'm stumped!! I just published my web site and everything went great.
BUT! I have placed an image and a link to a larger version of the same
image on this page: http://www.threesistersfabric.com/kits.htm right below
where it says "Argyle Kit". For whatever the reason the img tag absolutely
won't upload. I've to change it inFrontPage, refreshing, redoing, checking
spelling, case, etc. and re-publishing. Won't work. I've tried to open the
remote page and change it that way. No way. FINALLY I got the link to
upload, but the image simply won't. I checked my files on the server (Is
that how you'd say it? I am NOT an expert, but I am having fun learning all
this stuff!) and the images are there. Why can't I get that tag to load?
The address to the image is
http://www.threesistersfabric.com/images/kits/argylekits.jpg you can see
that it is there.

Hey and while you're looking - do you have any comments or suggestions??????
I'm open!!!!

Thanks,
Allison

You sure it's there? I cleared all the temp files and history. I also
tried opening the page in Netscape (which I haven't done since I created
that particular page) and still no image. It's not even in my source code.

Still stumped!

Hmmm - Well I guess I just have to trust you - or go to the library to see
it there! Yup - the "s" stands for "small" - the image that it opens is
larger than the one that loads on the page.

Thanks for checking!!!

Try this:
Go here: http://www.95isalive.com/fixes/fpclean.htm and download FP Cleaner ( with
Expression Web Designer and SharePoint Designer support )
Download links are at the bottom of the page.
Run the functions that clear:
The Hidden Temporary files.
The Hidden Cache (*.web) files.

Then open the web in FrontPage.
Click Tools > Recalculate Hyperlinks.

When it's done republish.

See if it helps.

Are you using Norton, Symantec or McAfee security products. These often
remove code from pages if the image has the wrong name or is a certain
size.

How bizarre! I ran the cleaners, recalculated the hyperlinks, and
re-cleared my history and temp files, then I republished. Still no image.
It doesn't show up in the source code at all. Just an extra blank line.

Is it me? Or are you, Eleanor, still not finding the image in Firefox? I
never checked that browser at all... probably should have...

BINGO!!!!! That must have been it! I disabled Norton and republished the
page and there it was!!

Many, many thanks!!!

What in the world??? You can't be serious. You mean that even though I've
gotten the html to publish computers that use Norton won't be able to see
the image? I can see it even when Norton is enabled. I just couldn't get
the html to upload.

Are there any Norton users out there that can't see my Arglye Kit image on
http://www.threesistersfabric.com/kits.htm ?????? (Not to challenge you,
Ron, I just HAVE to know if anyone else is having trouble. And if it is a
problem, WHAT do I do to fix it???)

A bit worried,
Allison

Norton removes the code when you view the page in a browser from the web.
The image and page were probably published correctly - unless the program
has been "improved" to work in both directions.

Most Norton/Symantec users will have the same problems you had.
To fix the problem, resize the images by a few pixels in an image editor -
the image names seem to be safe.

But if size is the issue, just about every other image in my site is just
about this size and are likewise linked to a larger image of the same....
and none of them had any trouble. And my banner image is certainly larger.

What do you mean by 'if the program was "improved"'? Are you referring to
when I disabled Norton causing it finally publish correctly?

Forgive my ignorance,
Allison

The bottom line: This is a Norton issue. Unfortunately, this is the way
their program works. You may wish to take it up with Norton support.

"About this size" is not the same as "exactly the same size". Even 1px
difference in height or width will make the difference.
Norton looks for images where the name includes ad, advert, advertisement,
banner and any similar wording in the image name or path. Norton also
looks for images where the size is that of a "standard" advertisement or
banner (I have no idea what that size is- it seems to vary a lot). Any
image that falls foul of the name or size rules will be removed from the
page when Norton scans it.

The last time I heard, Norton only removed images when the page was
downloaded from the server, that is viewed in a browser. My sarcastic
reference to "improved" was referring to possible image removal from
uploads as well as downloads in the latest version.

Just want to say thanks for your replies. They made things much clearer. I
did resize the image and will hope for the best! I have mostly been a
reader of this newsgroup, but I have learned tons and enjoy it greatly. I
guess there will always be more to learn!!

Oh - and BTW - I have really enjoyed using FontPage. It makes publishing a
breeze! (Except for that one image, of course. :-} )

Smiling,
Allison
