Implementation Question

Bob Vardell

We are going to implement Project 2003 for our management
group. How do we know what to buy?

Does everyone use Project 2003 Standard and then put one
copy of Server on the Server? If we all own Standard, do
we still need CALs?

Hi,

To use Server's enterprise capabilities you need:

One copy of Server and one copy of Project Professional (standard doesn't
talk to server) for each scheduler. You then also need one Web Access CAL
for each person who doesn't have Project Professional to view data in web
access (using IE 5+). You also need SQL Server.

To get the full range of features from Project Server 2003 you need to run
it on Windows Server 2003, which in turn (I think) means you need Windows XP
on each client, or a WS 2003 CAL.

Make sure you enlist help for your implementation as implementing Project
Server and your project management processes together requires experience
and knowledge to deliver the best return on investment. It is not like
installing a desktop application.
