Import button missing for project schedules

I have been trying to import data into visio by using the MS instructions.

The instruction say to click "import data" under the "timeline" tab.

That "import data" selection is not there under the "timeline" tab.

Is there an update that needs to happen so the instructions in MS Visio are
accurate. I am running visio 2003 sp2.

I do not have project installed. Will project schedules only work with
imported data from MS Project? I was hoping I could do it from Excel.
