Import distribution lists into address book

C

Captain Kirk

My company has several distribution lists which I wish to import into my
address book. They are listed under a public contacts folder in outlook
under public folders. These lists have the same icon listed as my contact
list, so these could possibly be classified as contacts. Can anyone provide
me with assistance as to how I can do this? Google and Microsoft help
provide me with no examples.

Have you tried grabbing and draging them into your Contacts folder? What
happens when you try (the exact message please).

Why do you need them in your Contacts anyway? They are accessible where
they are (unless sychning with a PDA). I can hlep you configure them if you
need help making them work in the To... field.

Thanks Judy for your response. I tried dragging it into my contacts folder
but this did not have any affect. There was no message when I did this, but
I notice the list was entered as a subdirectory under my contacts folder.
What I am trying to accomplish is to move these lists so I can place them in
the pull down menu from the "Select Names" dialogue box in the "show names
from the" field when composing a message.

I have a feeling that they're not DLs at all, but Public Contacts folders.

Did you try adding the folders to the Public Folders Favorites folder, then
try to enable them as address books?

IF what you have is a DL in a Public Folder, you don''t need it in your
Contacts folder to make it work as you describe it:

"What I am trying to accomplish is to move these lists so I can place them
in the pull down menu from the "Select Names" dialogue box in the "show
names from the" field when composing a message.

SHow the Folder List View in the Navigation Pain, that's the left side chunk
of Outlook. Drill down to the Public Folder Contacts Folder that has your
DL in it. (Go all the way down to the root source folder not one you have
put in Favorites)

Right click that Contacts Folder | Properties | Outlook Address Book | check
the box to Show as an Outlook Address book. Now the names in that Contacts
Folder will appear in the To... field and when you want to show names from
each folder.

Thank you Judy! Having this information really has helped my coworker out a
great deal. My lists were previously set up by an IT person who has since
left our company, and I did not recall how he did it.
