Word 97 was the last Word version that included the AutoCAD
Format 2-D graphics filter (dxfimp32.flt), which supports all
AutoCAD versions through Release 12 including AutoCAD for
Windows. The .dxf filter is no longer available for download
from the Microsoft website, but you can download it from Word MVP
Graham Mayor's website http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm .

I successfully followed these instructions. When I try to insert a dxf
file, WORD crashes and sends an error message to microsoft.

What does the error message say? (please quote it exactly and
completely)

Did Word crash before you installed the .dxf filter? Does Word
crash when you insert a .jpg or .tif or other graphic format file?

Is the .dxf file newer than AutoCAD Release 12? Is the .dxf file
a three-dimensional drawing?

We can't see your screen from here, and we can't see what you're
doing from here, so you need to put a bit more effort into
describing the problem better.

The computer that I am operating was just purchased from Dell. It is an M65
Mobile workstation with Microsoft Office 2003 Professional Edition installed;
Operating system: Genuine Windows® XP Professional, SP2, English, with Media
and an NTFS file system.

I have been using this computer for 2 weeks now and this is the first crash
that I have encountered. WORD does not crash when any other graphics files
are inserted.

The graphic file that I am working with can be retrieved at:

I am able to insert other .dxf files in my copy of Word 2002, but
that First Nations Land .dxf file in your link also causes my
copy of Word 2002 to crash when I try to insert it. My guess is
that your .dxf file was saved in a newer version of AutoCAD (the
current version is Release 16), while the Word converter only
knows how to handle Release 12 or older .dxf files.
