import email from outlook express to ms outlook

D

Dang Thanh Phong

Hi,

I'm having issue importing emails from Outlook Express to MS Outlook 2003.

I currently have about 35000 emails, located in about 70 folders under OE
with the total size (of dbx file) of about 4GB. Now, wanted to move to
MSO2003 which I just purchased the license. However, the import of messages
can not be finished successfully as the maximum size for outlook.pst (the
file to store all email in MSO2003) is 2GB only. The import always stop in
middle with the error saying outlook.pst has reached its maximum size.

Please kindly help to advise how can I migrate all of my email to MSO2003? I
can not delete them they are all important emails.

Thanks
Phong

You will need to create a new 2003 unicode .pst file to get all that mail
into Outlook. In Outlook, file->new->outlook data file->type = personal
folders. Make it the default delivery location and close the one that
Outlook created when you installed it.

Then try exporting your mail from OE to Outlook.

Milly,

Thanks for your response. It worked like a charm. I have done the import,
however, there is one issue: Most of the emails in Inbox, the date was
changed to today (the date I did the import). So It's very difficult to
search for a specific emails. This did not happen to emails in other boxes.
Please advise.

BTW, what I did is to directly select Import\from OE within MS Outlook 2003,
not export from OE. Anything wrong with it?

In OE, there is this feature to change the encoding of a message? Is there a
similar feature in MSO2003?

I have already fixed the issue of date by "export from OE" instead of
"import from MS OL2003". Now, all the date are displayed correctly.

Only one issue is I have many emails in Vietnamese language. After the
export, in MS OL2003, they were not displayed correctly. All of the VNmese
characters were showed as (?). Examle: "ki?m tra l?i và c?p nh?t". Please
advise how to rectify this? I will need to re-export again.

BTW, I have checked, my pst file is already an OL2003's Personal Folder File
(Unicode ready).

Appreciate for your response.

Importing from Outlook will ALWAYS have the problem of the received date
changing to the date of the import. One reason I recommended Exporting from
OE rather than Importing from Outlook.

Sorry - I have no experience with foreign language encoding problems.
