import error in access 2007

I am trying to import an Excel sheet into Access 2007. The same mdb and xls
work fine in Access 2003. In Access 2007, I can get as far as "Finish" and
then I get this error message:

" is not a valid name. Make sure that it does not include invalid
characters or punctuation and that it is not too long.

I do not have the " character in any of the cells. I even tried creating a
very small and very simple Excel sheet just to see if I could import ANYTHING
and I get the same mesage no matter what Excel sheet I try to import.

Any ideas?
