Import/Export specification

I have access 2002. I was trying to access the import/export specification
and when I click on the "Advanced" button a message from the "import Export
Wizard" is diplayed - "could not lock file". When you click on ok it goes to
the mx_FrmAdvanced:form but not data, filed names etc. are displayed, if I
click on specs and select the spec I want it just hangs and eventually stops
responding. Can anyone help please

If this happens with all databases on one computer, I'd try running
Microsoft Office XP Setup and repairing the installation.

Thanks for that John, I did try on another pc at this location. I have
already done this at another location which did not throw up the error. Can
you suggest anything else please.

a) only on one computer and only with one database?

b) with all databases on one computer?

c) with one database (or some databases) on all computers?

d) at all location,or only one?

Hi John,
I have the problem with one database on at least 2 PC's at 1 location. at
another location we have a slightly different version of the database which
works fine. I can use the database from the second location here but cannot
access the import/export specification on it.

This makes me feel that the problem is in the database, which may have

I'm running out of ideas. One thing I'd do is check the file system
permissions on the folder where the file being imported is located:
make sure the user has permission to create and delete files there
(though I'm not certain this would make a difference). I'd also use
Tools|Options and unhide Access's system tables, then use
Tools|Security|User and Group Permissions to check that the current
user has permission to insert, update and delete data in the two
MSysIMEXxxx tables.

Hi John, I've tried what the said but still having the same problem. I took a
copy of the database to our other site (which is ok) and copied it onto the
server. when I started it up, I was then able to access the import/export
specification ok. I have now reinstalled it at the original site and is
working ok but I still cannot change the import/export spec.
Sorry to be a pain anything else I could try ?

Thanks John, I have tried all that and still no difference. Thanks for trying
anyway, if you can think of anything else or anywhere else I can try please
let me know.
