import external data as a List (not table) into excel 2010 with excel 2000-2003 list format

I need to import external data through msquery not like a table but like a
list as Excel 2000-2003 format and maintain external data connection. This
because the old release had more possibility to define filter, add heading
line manually (so update can't change heading line after external import
data), define import properties before import data etc., etc.
May you help me how to do it?
I discovered that if the file was generated by excel 2003, when I open it
into office 2010, the list of external data are not converted into table
format and maintain import characteristics of office 2003.
