Import from Excel

I am importing records from Excel into Outlook Contacts
and having two problems:

1. I get the following error message: MAPI error
0X80070057 was reported". The import is stopped and only
a handful of the records are successfully imported. Does
anyone know how to work around this error?
2. Only the first character of the e-mail address gets
imported. Does anyone know if I need to format the e-mail
addresses differently in Excel in order for it to import
correctly? I also imported website addresses, but that
didn't give me any trouble.
