Import from Excel

I am trying to import tasks from Excel into Project. While going through the wizard, I select "Merge the data into the active project." Once complete, the data is always placed at the end of the task list.

Is there a way to have the data merge rather than append to the project plan? I even used the Excel Project template which allows you to specify task ID numbers.
