Import from Excel

I am having to import a project from Excel into Project. This is the first
time I have done this and can't find a solution in the Help box or training
manual. Issue is: when importing a project from Excel (1) the WBS does not
show in Project. Do I have to in/out-dent each item separately or, is there
something in the Import Wizard I am missing that will bring over the proper
WBS - there are 911 lines that would have to be done manually!? and (2) The
Wizard lets me select that I want to have Tasks, Resources, Assignments but
it appears I can only import one of those....not select all.

The Help info speaks mainly to insuring you have the right type of data in a
field, not "how to import the WBS" or how to select all maps. My training
manual doesn't either....and I've checked out Mike Glen's site.

You can use Outline Level to set the heirarchy.
As for the WBS, I'm not certain, but I think that you will have some
difficulty with it as project typically wants to assign it's own values.
There may be a setting somewhere to override this, but I haven't worked with
this feature for a while.
If you have a predetermined WBS that you want to keep (and won't be editing
much), you might want to consider importing it into a text field.

Thanks - actually, what I am trying to do is import this workplan and have
the indents already there without my manually having to indent/outdent in
Project. Is this possible?

Yes, using the Outline Number field.

Suggestion: In project, create a simple project file which has the sort
of hierarchy you are expecting. Export the fields from Project that you
know you will be importing, including Outline Level field. Export to
Excel. Look at the Excel file created. Then massage your Excel data
into the exact same format as in that file. Then import that massaged
data back into an empty Project file.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Yes.
Since you have already imported, import again but include the outline level
(use something unique as the merge key). 1 would be no indent, 2 would be
indent one level...
