Import from Powerpoint

I think that it would be very useful for OneNote to include a feature to
IMPORT slides or entire presentations from PowerPoint.

I find that, when attending lectures, professors frequently provide
PowerPoint slides for students to guide their notes. It would be useful if
one were able to import these slides into OneNote to include in their notes.

PowerPoint already has the ability to print out slides in a mode which
allows for taking notes beside each slide; why not allow for the same thing
in OneNote?

I find that, at the moment, I'm having to copy and paste over each slide
(you cannot even copy the entire presentation at once) and resize every time.

This would be a great feature in OneNote and make it a lot easier to take
notes for college/university students.

How about it?

Keith,
This is one of my biggest requests (to both sides, by the way). However,
there are ways to do this - they just aren't always pretty....

1) Use Send to Word from PowerPoint, save the document, then from OneNote do
a Insert--> Document as Picture
2) Insert the presentation directly with Insert--> Document as Picture
(biggest problem with both of these is that you get a black and white
version of the slides)
3) (My preferred way) Go to Jeff Borlik's site and download PPT2One - It's a
OneNote API implementation that lets you send presentations to OneNote in
color, with notes, nicely. You can find it at:
http://www.borlik.net/blog/archives/000097.html

And, while I am thinking of it... Has anyone out there decided which way we
are referring to these additional tools? Are they all PowerToys, are they
add-ins, or are they something else?

Thanks, Kathy. You know I'm one of those PowerPoint addicts, too. But this
doesn't work for me. A language issue again? Is there anybody here who has
tested it in languages other than English?

They are called Add-Ins in all other Office programs - why not call them the
same name in OneNote?

Kind regards,
Ute

Ute,
Regarding the multiple language support: I would suggest contacting Jeff via
his web site (tell him I sent you). I am guessing that it is English only,
but he might be willing to help you figure out how to make it work with a
non-English system. If he doesn't get back to you, let me know.

The reason I am not comfortable calling the extra tools "add-ins" is that
they are not part of the OneNote interface. All of these tools (so far) run
in other programs or via their own interface. Add-in implies they would be
part of the programs interface.

Having said that: I really don't care what we call them. I am just sick of
trying to explain the different names to newbies :)
