Import info. from one file to another on two separate computers

Need to update the Master schedule that resides at another Company. Our
Sub-Master schedule is updated in our company and is part of the Master
Schedule, but not linked because line #'s and wording do not match exactly.
We want to send progress updates to them, but only sections of our project
not the whole file, i.e. (column or task line). Our file is Project 2003.
Wht is the simplest way to do this? We are not connected to a shared Project
Server.

Thanks, Lorenzo

Lorenzo,
Frankly your file doesn't sound like it is a subproject of the "master"
since task descriptions (I assume that's what you mean by "wording")
don't match. Nonetheless, there are probably several ways to exchange
the data. I'll outline of of method that comes to mind.

I assume you don't want to send the whole file due to proprietary data
or similar concerns. Here's a process you might want to try. First set
up a filter for your file that shows only those tasks you wish to share.
Then create an export map of those tasks and select only the fields of
those tasks that are to be shared. Export the data to an Excel Workbook.
Send the workbook to the other company. They can then import that data
into their file probably as an append since the descriptions don't
match. I would seriously consider syncing up the task descriptions
between your file and their master so they could import using a merge.

I'll be honest, I've never tried this approach. It should work but I
don't know what problems you may or may not encounter. If someone else
has a better method, hopefully they will reply.
