Import, Link & Embed

What is the difference between importing, linking and embedding. As far as
I'm aware, embedding is when you take data from another application and place
it permanently in word. The data is static and stored in word. Linking, is
when you paste a link to the data which remains in another application, and
when the original data is updated this is reflected in word.

But I don't know what importing means.

Where are you seeing the term? As far as I know, Word doesn't use it anywhere as
in a specific context. "Import" means you're bringing something into the
document. You'll find it in the Visual Basic Editor's File menu, for example.
Here it means you're bringing an external code module into the current VB
project, making it part of the project.

Just as further information: when you link something into Word, you generate a
field code in the document. Links to pictures are maintained by IncludePicture
fields; to text/document files IncludeText fields are used; for OLE objects
(such as an Excel chart or table) a Link field.
