Import Local field to Enterprise field

Hello:

We did not have project server implemented and were using local fileds.
However, we are now using project sevrer. I want to know if there is a way to
automate(wizard, writting a script) moving some of the local fields into
enterprise fields? I can write a SQL script. I have had bad experiences
trying to insert data in the backend.
Any advice?

Thanks.

Normally that is done as part of the Import Project to Enterprise wizard.
However, you can insert local and Enterprise Fields in a new Table then copy
and paste.

There is no automated way to import your local fields directly into Project
Server. The proper approach, therefore, would be do this:

1. Launch Microsoft Project and log into Project Server with administrator
permissions
2. Open any project containing those local custom fields
3. Click Tools - Enterprise Options - Open Enterprise Global
4. Click Tools - Customize - Enterprise Fields
5. Select the first customize enterprise field you wish to import (select
the correct field type and then rename the field)
6. For the selected field, click the Import Custom Field button
7. Click the Project pick list and select the project containing the local
field
8. Select a value from the three Field Type options
9. Click the Type pick list and select the local field that matches the
custom enterprise field you are creating
10. Click the OK button to import the information from the local field,
including a Value List or Formula in the field
11. Repeat steps #5 through #10 for each local field in the project
12. When finished, click the OK button to close the Customize Enterprise
Fields dialog
13. Save and close the Enterprise Global file and close the local file as
well
14. Exit and relaunch Microsoft Project

Hope this helps.
