Import OE 5 data - Entourage 2008

I have a friend who recently installed Office 2008 on a new Intel
iMac. He previously used Outlook Express 5 in OS 9 on an old Sawtooth
G4 Mac. Without Entourage 2004 which can import the OE 5 main
identity, is there anyway for him to get the OE 5 mail and contacts
into Entourage 2008?

Options

Can he still open OE? If yes, do it the manual way. Export as MBOX and
contacts as tab delimited.

Use Apple Mail then transfer to Entourage

Download the demo Office 2004 and import. Be sure to completely Office 2004
using "Remove Office" when you are through. Be sure the files are on the
same volume. Entourage doesn't like importing from another drive.

Thanks, I will let him know..

Hello, I'm trying to move messages from Outlook Express 5 on an old mac into either Mail (v 3.2) or Entourage (2008) on a new one. Please could you outline the steps for exporting Outlook Express as MBOX? Many thanks

Drag to desktop each folder including subfolders, or use the Export Folders
script. (this gets subfolders too) (freeware)

See this page for help.

Thanks for this - unfortunately dragging the messages to a folder on the desktop and then transferring them from one computer to the other turns the messages from "Outlook Express document" kind to "Unix executable file" on the new mac. These are not recognised by Entourage; the only success I have in dragging them into Entourage is to rename them individually with an .mbox file ending - not really practical as I have 1000+ messages to transfer.. Am I doing something wrong?

Drag the folder not individual messages. This creates an MBOX file for that
folder.

The script Export Folders does it all for you very quickly.
