Import of Project/Resource/Assignment info from Excel into MS Proj

Dear all,

My three worksheets contain minimum info concerning the project.
Tasks sheet:
ID, Outline_Level, Outline_Number, Name,Predecessor, constraint_type,
constraint_date, Duration, Work, Actual_Duration, Remaining_Work, Notes.

Resource Sheet:
ID, Resource_names, Resource_Initials, Group, Type, Max Units, Std Rate,
Cost per use.

Assignment sheet:
ID, Resource ID, Resource_Initials, Units, Task_ID

Uploading in Project via a rather standard map results in a nice project
overview in which some tasks are empty. When I leave assignments away, the
result is much better.

Where can I find info about how info from the 3 sheets interact in MS
Project and which info is missing for correct uploading? Should I use
Resource ID or Resource Unique ID etc.?

Who has some experience with this type of problems?

Thanks in advance,

Stefan

What version of Project? In 2002+ you can save a project as an Excel
Template which has a sheet for tasks, resources and Assignments. You then
only need to fill in your own data and import is easy.

Stefan -

I found that I had to run the load as a two pass operation as I could never
get the all three to work in a single pass.

I load tasks first and then append assignments. I do not use resources as
the minimal resource info I needed I could put in the assignment. MS Project
did the rest.
